Featured Video - Jingle Jangle - Rockfield Chorale

My very first post 500 odd posts ago. Still my all time favorite. If there was a just God, this song would go to #1 every year at Christmas. Why is this the near perfect Christmas tune? Well, musically it has 1) Bells, 2 ) A Choir 3 ) Even better ! - A Children's Choir! 4) Jangling guitars. Not strictly a necessity but awfully nice:) 5) Castanets as percussion 6) Did I say Bells? Well more Bells... Lyrically, It mentions the all-important words such as 1) "Snowflakes" or "Snow " Snowman" - extra points for all 2) "Children" 3) "Laughter" or "Laughing" 4) "Sleighbells" 5) "Ding-Dong" 6) "Jack Frost" 7) "Mistletoe" 8) "Gift " 9) "Joy" - Extra Credit for the phrase "Gifts of Joy" 10) "Boy" 11) "Girl" 12) Jingle-Jangle".That just about covers it. Did I leave anything out? If so let me know in the comments.

Classic Christmas Tunes 6 - Bob Rivers - "All You Need Is Elves"

Truly a masterpiece!! I never tire of this song. I love all the sublime touches - the brass band at the beginning - even toward the outro the chant going "She loves you Ho Ho Ho" Do not wish to sound trite but all the lyrics are so very clever. Sno doubt you will be forced to recall 'The Beatles' "All You Need Is Love" - definitely not a bad memory during the Christmas season

Classic Christmas Tunes - Make Like Monkeys - it's Christmas!

Hardly anything better than a jingle jangle pop sound for Christmas. On this song, the band out of New York "Make Like Monkeys", absolutley nail it! The Fisrt version is actually the Alternate version I like them both quite a bit but maybe I do give the alternate version a slight edge due to the pronounced jingle jangle guitars

Here is the original first version still also an A Plus rendition. It should be released as a double A sided 45

Big Big Train - Merry Christmas

Some eopel would say that if there are two genres that surely do not mix whatsoever and should be kept at arms length, it would be Progressive Rock Music affectionataly termed Prog-Rock by its legions of adoring fans and Christmas Music. This song blows away that myth. How? by being an excellent prog-rock song and by its thoroughly Christmasy lyics. Have a slice of Progressive pie this Christmas

Classic Christmas Tunes - The Very Most - Wombling Merry Christmas

Such an engaging Christmas song. Quite simplistic in construction, yet amazingly effective and affecting all at the same time. See what I mean.

Classic Christmas Tunes - Pacific Gold - The Holly & The Ivy

Do not know a whole lot about 'Wayfarer' or 'Pacific Gold', but I do know that I love these new Chrismas songs with old Christmas titles. What is particularly sriking is the welcome upbeat fast pace of these tunes. Just have to love them.

For years I thought that the Pacific Gold version was the original. Recently I have learned that it is the cover while the original was done by a band called Wayfarer. Both are great albeit slightly distinct.

Classic Christmas Tunes - Sia - Underneath The Mistletoe

A veritable superstar, Sia may be my favorite current mass media artist now. At the height of her creative powers, Sia released her first Christmas Album 'Everyday Is Christmas' last year just before Christmas. This year it has been repackaged to include 3 new songs for 2018. What an awesome song with her patented piano intro. Of course, this is the artist who provided Paloma Faith with her stunning hit song "Warrior", which featured greatly in the latest Avengers movie "Infinity War'. Sia's demo was originally called "Black and Blue" See if you can find it.

Classic Christmas Tunes - The Nines - Believe in Christmas

Now, this is the gorgeous lush Christmas song we always thought Paul McCartney would do. Oh, this isn't him? More the pity. Nevertheless, in this instance, and just in time for Christmas, 'The Nines' (or at least main man Steve Eggars) have managed to outdo McCartney at his own game. See if you don't agree.
